Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas has returned to service following a $100 million upgrade, during which Foreship provided comprehensive design and engineering services underpinning one of the most complex cruise ship refurbishments in recent years.

Foreship’s involvement began in late 2023, supporting the owner from the earliest planning stages through to the vessel’s redelivery in April 2025. Working in close cooperation with Royal Caribbean’s project team, Foreship deployed a multidisciplinary group of naval architects, engineers, and project managers in the office and on site during the drydock period.

The scope included naval architecture, risk assessment, basic design, structural calculations, piping and cabling engineering, and documentation for class approval. Foreship also coordinated contractors to ensure all works met the owner’s operational vision and safety requirements.

Significant structural changes included a new steel section in the forward part of the vessel to accommodate additional cabins, and reinforcement to support new water slides. At the aft, the installation of the ‘Ultimate Abyss’ – a 10-storey dry slide dropping 100 feet from Deck 16 to Deck 6 – required the design of new pillars beneath the boardwalk to take the additional load.

Below deck, extensive modifications to piping, electrical systems, and ancillary services were undertaken to support new features, including whirlpools, fountains, and a reimagined pool deck.

“We have been working with Royal Caribbean for over a decade across multiple major assignments, including newbuildings and refurbishments, and we are delighted to add the upgrade of Allure of the Seas to our shared track record,” says Daniel Grönroos, Senior Project Manager, Foreship. “Our role is to provide the planning, design, engineering, and project management expertise that helps Royal Caribbean deliver phenomenal holidays.”

By combining technical precision with a strong understanding of guest experience, Foreship ensured that this Oasis-class icon emerged from drydock ready to welcome guests to an enhanced range of attractions and facilities, all fully integrated into the ship’s complex operational systems.
