An excellent example of how we work towards the best ship design possible. Foreship worked on behalf of the owner as well as other parties involved providing specialty consultancy services throughout the project. The scope of work included:

  • Hull form development
  • Extensive CFD analysis
  • Review of weight, stability, structures, hydrodynamics, noise and vibration and other aspects of the design
  • Engineering of the "Ripcord" skydiving simulator and the "North Star" Observation Gondola

Stena Scandinavica

Conversion Project (2013)
Client: Stena Teknik

Fuel efficiency was the goal in this conversion project where the bulb of Stena Scandinavica was re-designed and replaced. In addition several other aspects of the underwater hull were modified to improve the resistance. Foreship provided the following services:

  • design of a new bulbous bow and modifications to thruster tunnels including grids
  • extensive full scale CFD simulations of the modifed hull including grids and modifications to the thruster tunnels
  • structural design of the bulb
  • production support

Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway

Star Pisces

Conversion Project (2013)
Client: Star Cruises

Foreship provided design and engineering services for new shops, casino and other public spaces in this refurbishment project for Star Cruises. Our scope covered:

  • feasibility studies and proposal for the conversion
  • fire control plan
  • structural fire protection plan
  • sprinkler system scheme
  • electrical cable diagrams for emergency lighting, PA system and fire detection systems

Oriana

Conversion Project (2011)

This project was a sponson ducktail addition to the vessel Oriana. This is a good way to improve the stability of a vessel and if designed properly can even improve the hydrodynamic performance. The scope of work included:

Finntrader RoPax

Conversion Project (2007)
Client: Finnlines

Foreship has been in charge of the basic design and the project management of the conversion RoPax ship “Finntrader” together with the Finnlines site team. The vessel was converted at Remontowa shipyard in Poland.

This significant and successful conversion included, among other modifications, 160 new passenger cabins (without affecting the vessel's profile), and introduction of drive-through cargo handling, new auxiliary engine and significant modifications in public spaces.

This project received also the “Shippax Outstanding RoPax Conversion” Award. Foreship's scope of work included:

An extensive conversion, which included among other modifications several public spaces changes, addition of new verandahs, a new restaurant and an enlarged spa. The Foreship scope of work included:

Cruise ship lengthening project where Foreship participated in initial preparations, structural drawings and calculation and in detail design. The scope of work included:

Foreship provided an extensive scope of services for the vessel for two different big conversions in 2005 and 2008, including, for example, addition of several cabins. The scope of work included the following:

  • Feasibility Studies and Conversion Specification
  • Structural Classification Drawings and approval of shipyards workshop drawings
  • SOLAS drawing and plan updates
  • Electrical safety and power distribution drawings
  • Piping and ducting diagrams
  • Damage stability calculation for increased draught

Baltika Oblique Icebreaker

Client: Aker Arctic Technology, Arctech Helsinki Shipyard

Foreship was involved from the early stages in the development of the world's first oblique icebreaker, designed to break ice both moving forward as well as sideways in order to clear wider channels with a single vessel. Our work included:

BlueTech 42 Bulk Carrier

Foreship is deeply involved in the joint development with Foreship BlueTech in their BlueTech 42 Bulk Carrier design, providing specialty consultancy services. Foreship's contribution to the design included:

Container Ship Hull Optimization

Newbuilding Design Project (2012)
Client: Compagnie Maritim Nantaise, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard

Foreship proved our cargo ship hydrodynamic expertise in this project, where we optimized the hull of a newbuilding con-ro 2800 TEU container ship. Our contribution to the project was:

  • preliminary hull form evaluation
  • wake field improvement using RANS CFD
  • recommendations for improvements to the hull form
  • model test coordination and supervision

MSV Nordica and MSV Fennica SCR Installation

Foreship carried out a complete engineering package for the retrofit installation of SCR NOx exhaust gas reduction units on the multipurpose icebreaking supply vessels Fennica and Nordica. The work included:

Vitus Bering

In this latest icebreaking OSV project for Arctech Helsinki Shipyard, Foreship provided design and engineering services for both the basic and detail design stage as well as production support. Our work included:

Fesco Sakhalin

This was the first of many projects for icebreaking offshore supply vessels in which we have participated. The vessel was designed for supporting the Orlane oil production platform in the Russian far east specifically for ice management. Foreship's contribution to the project included:

Containerships VII Scrubber Installation

Foreship provided a complete engineering package for installation of the Wärtsilä scrubber for Containerships VII. The work covered:

Quantum of the Seas North Star Gondola

Quantum of the Seas Ripcord Skydive Centre

Foreship carried out structural engineering and analysis for the Ripcord Skydiving Simulator onboard the Quantum of the Seas cruise vessel. This is the first ever skydiving simulator onboard a ship. The scope of work included:
